These guidelines are part of our Terms of Use. They apply to everything you share in Hako: your username and avatar, room names and descriptions, messages, and reactions.
Be kind
Treat people the way you’d want to be treated in a quiet library. Disagreements are fine; attacks aren’t.
Not allowed in Hako
- Harassment and bullying: insulting, threatening, or targeting someone, including repeated unwanted messages.
- Hate: attacking or demeaning people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
- Sexual content: sexually explicit messages, usernames, or room content, and any sexual content involving minors, which we report to the authorities.
- Violence and self-harm: threats, glorifying violence, or encouraging self-harm or suicide.
- Spam and scams: advertising, chain messages, flooding a room, or trying to get people’s personal or payment details.
- Impersonation: pretending to be another person, a teacher, or Hako.
- Sharing private information: posting someone’s contact details, address, or other personal information without their permission.
- Illegal content: anything illegal, including cheating services or sharing exam content you have no right to share.
If someone breaks the rules
Press and hold a message to report it or block its sender, or use the menu on someone’s profile to report or block them. Reports are private: the person you report isn’t told who reported them.
We review reports, normally within 24 hours. Depending on what happened, we may delete the content, suspend the account, or ban it permanently. Serious cases, such as threats or anything involving the safety of a minor, may lead to an immediate ban and a report to the authorities.
If you’re struggling
If you or someone in your room is thinking about self-harm, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line in your country. Reporting a self-harm message in Hako also flags it to us as urgent.
